Will YSR loyalists finally dump Jagan?

A perception, which is gaining currency , that Kadapa Congress MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is nurturing plans to float his own outfit has forced many erstwhile loyalists of the late CM Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to take a call on where they stand — while some are now distancing themselves from Jagan, others appear to be diluting their support. "Because of Jagan's recent utterances as well as his cold ties with the Congress high command, there is an uneasy feeling among ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs owing allegiance to YSR that the Kadapa MP is treading an anti-Congress path. Hence, many have turned either neutral or become pro-CM Rosaiah," a Congress source said. This perception is strong among many senior ministers who have now developed a working relationship with Rosaiah. The list includes Botsa Satyanarayana , Kanna Lakshminarayana, Gade Venkata Reddy, Dharmana Prasada Rao, J Geeta Reddy, D Sridhar Babu, Vatti Vasanta Kumar, Galla Aruna Kumari, D Manikya Varaprasad , Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mukesh Goud, D Raja Narasimha and Pitani Satyanarayana. They were all once in the forefront of the 'Jagan-for-CM ' campaign in September 2009. These ministers are of the view that Jagan has failed to build a harmonious relationship with the high command. "He has met Congress president Sonia Gandhi only once. He has made no efforts to convince the central leadership that he is a loyal worker . In fact, unlike his father, he never refers to anyone from the Gandhi family in his speeches. Hence, he will not have many takers if he tried to break away," said an MLA from Prakasam. The seniors are also cut up with Jagan for not reciprocating their gestures after the demise of his father. "Jagan never cared to meet us to seek our opinions on his activities. He has not once visited our houses to thank us for backing him in his campaign for the CM's post," said a senior minister. Congmen steer clear of Jagan HYDERABAD: In Telangana districts, barring a handful of the 50 Congress party MLAs, none is expected to back MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, even though some have extended support to his scheduled Odarpu Yatra to Warangal this month-end . In Rayalaseema, the situation is slightly better, while in north coastal Andhra many party MLAs are set to choose Congress over Jagan, the sources said. Even in his home district Kadapa , two MLAs, D L Ravindra Reddy and D Virasiva Reddy, are said to have steered away from him. While from Anantapur district, former minister J C Diwakar Reddy is a known Jagan baiter. From Kurnool, Srisailam MLA E Pratap Reddy is not in the Jagan camp, while from Chittoor at least three leaders, N Kiran Kumar Reddy , Galla Aruna Kumari and G Kutuhalamma have distanced themselves from Jagan. From Nellore, senior leader and minister Anan Ramnarayana Reddy is said to be unhappy with Jagan while Sarvepalli MLA Adala Prabhakar Reddy is not in the Jagan camp. From Guntur, party sources claimed, Rosaiah has succeeded in weaning away both senior minister Kanna Lakshminarayana and his junior colleague D Manikya Varaprasad from the Jagan camp. While Jagan's supporters are hopeful of sizeable support from Krishna, East and West Godavari districts, indications are that while they are banking on rural development minister Vatti Vasanta Kumar , he is likely to stay neutral. From Visakhapatnam, at least two MLAs Dronamraju Srinivas and Chintalapudi Venktramaiah, party sources said, will go only by the word of the party high command. The Jagan camp cannot expect much support from the Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts legislators as they are said to be under the hold of PR minister Botsa Satanarayana. Among Union ministers, S Jaipal Reddy, M Pallam Raju, D Purandeswari and Panabaka Lakshmi are very unlikely to defy the high command on the issue of supporting Jagan while among the MPs, Kishore Chandra Deo, GV Harsha Kumar, Sarve Satyanarayana , Madhu Yaski, Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy, Manda Jagannatham , Chinta Mohan and Botsa Jhansi are said to be with Rosaiah. On the other hand, several Jagan supporters are said to be cut up with these ministers and other leaders. "All of them owe their political growth to YSR. But they are ready to ditch his son at the first opportunity . Our leader will bounce back and show them their places," said one Jagan loyalist

New Delhi: Law Minister M. Veerapa Moily on Tuesday denied that the Congress leadership has given the "go ahead" to party MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy for his controversial rally in Andhra Pradesh in memory of his father, the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Moily said that Jagan, had not broached the issue during their meeting earlier in the day, condradicting the latter's claim that he has been given permission for his rally. Andhra ministers back Rosaiah after Jagan's attack

"He did not seek permission. I did not give permission," Moily, who is party in charge of Andhra Pradesh, told reporters here.

He said that the MP should not resume his rally even in the coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions for now.

Telangana Congress MPs to complain about Jagan's remarks Jagan defied the party diktat and went ahead with the rally in the volatile Telangana region last week, triggering violence that necessitated his being taken into protective custody on May 28. The high command took note of his going against the party's advice.

Jagan, after his meeting with Moily Tuesday, claimed before media persons that the senior party leader had expressed appreciation for his tour

Jagan should refrain from yatra: Moily

Delhi Diary: When Moily disappointed judges

New Delhi: Law minister and senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Tuesday said party MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy should 'refrain' from his controversial yatra (rally). After the Congress top brass meeting with Reddy here, Moily said, "I would advice Jagan to refrain from his yatra completely. Rest is upto him." Moily's statement comes hours after Reddy said he has sorted 'all issues' over the yatra with the Congress. "My party has appreciated my yatra and the top leaders have given me clear indication that I can go ahead with this rally…all issues have been cleared," Reddy told reporters. On May 31, Reddy, who was recently detained for his controversial 'yatra' (rally), said he will not leave the party but is ready to quit from his Lok Sabha post. Party's given me go-ahead for rally, says Jagan "There is no reason why I should leave my party (Congress). If I had to leave, I would have done that immediately after my father (late Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy) died; at that time I also had sympathy of 135 MLAs," Reddy told reporters here. Reddy, who is in the Capital to meet Congress top brass over the 'yatra' controversy, said: "I respect madam (party supremo Sonia Gandhi) a lot, and have full faith in her. My intensions are clear, my mind is guilt-free, I have not done anything wrong. "I am here (Delhi) to request the Congress to allow me continue my Odarpu Yatra. I will explain my stand behind this apolitical rally. The 'yatra' cannot be stopped…it's my moral responsibility and duty to carry on with it. " Asked if there are chances that Congress will take action against him over this issue, Reddy said: "I don't think the party will take action against me. Why should they? I have done no wrong." On May 28, Reddy was taken into preventive custody by the Andhra Pradesh police, apprehending violent clashes after he refused to call off his controversial yatra (rally). Reddy was arrested from a train at Vangapalli in Nalgonda district while he was on way to Warangal to console the family members of those who died of shock or committed suicide after his father's death in a helicopter crash last year. Bandh in Telangana to protest violence during Jagan yatra Reddy was on a yatra to meet the bereaved family members and even after his arrest, he has reportedly stated of resuming his travel at a later date. His yatra was seen as a move to give air to the anti-Telangana lobby, of which Reddy and his late father were supporters. Like the late chief minister, the younger Reddy is also against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and he had, along with MPs from Rayalaseema and Andhra regions, voiced their opposition to formation of Telangana state in the Parliament. The yatra could have fuelled clashes between Reddy's supports and pro-Telangana activists. The Joint Action Committee (JAC), Telangana Rashtra Samiti, other pro-Telangana groups, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had announced their plans to stall the yatra. Some Congress leaders were also against Reddy's yatra and had even reportedly got Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to ask Reddy to stop his rally. Jagan Reddy arrested, Telangana march foiled But Reddy had decided to go ahead with the yatra, which he has now stated of resuming at a later time. He has maintained that the yatra was not a political statement, and his detractors were trying to defame him.

Congress MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday defended his controversial rally that triggered violence in Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh and said it was for his father, the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy who died in a helicopter crash last year.

"Whatever I'm doing is for my father. I'm sure the Congress president will understand my point," the Kadapa MP, known as Jagan, told reporters in New Delhi.

The son of the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister, who reached the national capital Sunday to attend a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, has sought an appointment with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other senior party leaders, said party sources.

The central leadership of the party had asked him not to conduct the rally in Telangana in view of the tension prevailing there over the separate statehood issue.

Senior Congress leader and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had Friday asked Jagan to call off his rally.

Defying the directive, Jagan embarked on the rally May 28, triggering violence between his supporters and opponents as he was taken into preventive custody while on his way to Mahbubabad in Warangal district.

Jagan reiterated that the rally was to console family members of those who committed suicide or died of shock following the death of his father, then chief minister, in a helicopter crash last year.
